Exposed Aggregate vs Plain Concrete: Which is Right for You?

Two of the most common concrete finishes on the South Coast are plain broom-finish concrete and exposed aggregate. Both are durable and long-lasting — but they look, feel and cost very different.
Plain Concrete: Simple and Affordable
Plain concrete with a broom finish is the budget-friendly option. It's clean, neutral and works well on paths, sheds, side access and modest driveways. Expect to pay around $85–$110/m² installed.
Exposed Aggregate: Decorative and Grippy
Exposed aggregate reveals the stones in the mix for a textured, decorative surface. It hides dirt and stains better, offers excellent slip resistance around pools and on slopes, and adds real value to the property. Typical cost: $130–$180/m².
Which Should You Choose?
Choose plain concrete for utility areas or tight budgets. Choose exposed aggregate for driveways, pool surrounds and feature paths where looks and grip matter. Many of our Wollongong customers mix both — exposed aggregate on the driveway, plain concrete down the side of the house.
